classic meets modern
Our Malvern East Project was a finalist in the Victorian HIA Best Custom Built Home Awards in both 2021 and 2022, along with receiving a nomination for a MBA Victoria Award.
The existing Edwardian home was in need of demolition whilst it was important to our client for us to recreate a design in keeping with the rich history of the area. The family were moving into another phase of life with their pre-teen through to young adult children and this directed the brief. Our scope needed to generate functional living spaces for work and play, with the breathing space to relax.
The design was to be considerate of the original property’s heritage with a new facade constructed to replicate the traditional single storey Edwardian style of the suburb. A contemporary double storey rear extension was built to seamlessly merge with the single storey frontage. The westerly aspect instructed the first floors overhang design, providing shade at the rear with the hang to the north allowing bright natural light to flood the study, living space and rumpus room.
The home includes 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, 2 living areas, kitchen, larder, dining room, study and laundry with an alfresco pool area and basketball court. The material selections and appliances were in close consultation with our clients. Selections were made for longevity, functionality and timeless style.
Entertainment and enjoyment of life both together as a family and apart formed the shape and flow of the home. Saturated in natural light and carefully considered zones make for comfortable quiet time and parties alike!
